What is Cosplay Creations?

Cosplay Creations is the name for my photography centered around cosplays, which can consist of planned shoots or random happenings at conventions.

Err...I'm sorry, what is a "cosplay"?

Wikipedia sums it up pretty well:

Cosplay (コスプレ kosupure), short for "costume play", is a performance art in which participants wear costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea. Cosplayers often interact to create a subculture centered on role play. A broader use of the term cosplay applies to any costumed role play in venues apart from the stage, regardless of the cultural context.

Basically, what cosplayers do is they find a character they really resonate with, think is awesome, admire, etc., and put together a costume to emulate them. These can consist of clothing, props, special hair and makeup, among other aspects, and can be either homemade or pieced together from bought items.

Um. Yeah. Sounds pretty weird to me. Kind of dorky, actually. People seriously do this in real life?

Actually, yes. A lot. The cosplay community has a massive online presence, with plenty of outlets to communicate and show off their works of art. The stereotype of the socially inept geek living in their mother's basement, making costumes no one will ever see is one that is dying. Cosplaying has come to the forefront in recent years, between popular conventions (including Comic-Con, Anime Expo and DragonCon, just to name a few), and TV shows like Heroes of Cosplay on Syfy. It's not just showing off their hard work, it's connecting with people just like them, who share a common hobby. Plus, some of the end results are pretty kick-ass.

Do you cosplay yourself?

To be honest, no. I have next to no sewing skills, dislike dressing up as a whole, and my acting skills are pretty terrible. I much prefer to photograph the ones who know what they're doing, and learning of a cosplayer's journey rather than trying to live it.

What type(s) of cosplay do you photograph?

Almost any! Anime, manga, video game, book, comic, TV, movie...you name it, I'll shoot it! (So long as there is no full-frontal nudity or depiction of inappropriate sexual conduct involving a character of a minor age. Anything else is at my discretion.)

Do you go to conventions? Which ones do you attend?

I used to go to them much more frequently, but I haven't been to one in quite some time. If I ever do, it's usually MegaCon, AFO or Orlando Anime Day.

I'm a cosplayer. Will you photograph me?

Drop me an email, and we can talk about it.
